Marie Catherine (Holtz) Wulfekuhle

Marie Catherine Wulfekuhle, 91, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, May 17, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.  She was born on October 4, 1926, in Littleport, the daughter of Aloysius “A.B.” and Clara (Thillen) Holtz.  Marie attended St. Mary Catholic School in Manchester.

On February 19, 1946, Marie was united in marriage to Harold Joseph Wulfekuhle at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. To this union six children were born, Ken, Danny, Linda, Mike, Harry, and Deb.  The couple farmed for two years near Masonville, moving to a farm near Greeley, where they lived from 1948 to 1955.  At that time, they moved to a farm just east of Edgewood, farming there until 1983, when they moved to Edgewood.  The couple enjoyed playing cards with their friends.

Marie was a faithful member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood.  She enjoyed quilting, needlepoint, and baking.  She also enjoyed gardening and tending her flowers. Marie loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them. She was a gracious lady who was very compassionate about her family and their needs. She was concerned about them right up until the end.

Survivors include her four children, Danny (Becky) Wulfekuhle, Linda (Al) Williams, Harry (Kathy) Wulfekuhle all of Edgewood, and Deb (Larry) Philipp of Ankeny; one daughter-in-law, Judy Wulfekuhle of Edgewood: 15 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, Lucille Holtz of Earlville, Helen Wulfekuhle of Manchester, Joanne Wulfekuhle of Independence, and Erma Wulfekuhle of Edgewood; and many nieces and nephews.

Marie was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold Wulfekuhle; two sons, Mike and Dr. Ken; two great-grandsons, Logan and Conner Hansel; her siblings, Francis (Wilma) Holtz, Edward (Leta) Holtz, Alberta (Mathias) Ronnebaum, Albert Holtz, and Theresa (Joe) Demeter; and brothers-and sisters-in-law, Lawrence (Bernice) Wulfekuhle, Leonard (Vera) Wulfekuhle, Arlene (Ernie) Ronnebaum, Floyd Wulfekuhle, Wilbur Wulfekuhle, and Arnold Wulfekuhle.

The family would like to thank Lincolnwood Assisted Living and the Edgewood Convalescent Home for all of the special care that they gave to Marie.
