Mary Jean Hemesath, 85, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Monday, October 25, 2021, at the ABCM East Care Center in Independence. She was born on December 17, 1935, in Hazleton, the daughter of Harvey and Mabel (Bentley) Kiefer. She was raised in the Hazleton area and was a graduate of Hazleton High School. Mary then attended Pitzies Cosmetology School in Waterloo.
On July 1, 1956, Mary was united in marriage to Winfred Mott. Three children were born to this union. The family lived in Iowa. The couple later divorced. On September 29, 1977, Mary was united in marriage to Ralph Hemesath. Ralph passed away on December 7, 1989. Mary did child day care in her home. She also worked at the Ryan Convenience Store.
Mary enjoyed having coffee with friends. She liked going to the casino and playing cards. Mary loved her family and spending time with them.
Survivors include her three children, Julie Williams of Valley City, North Dakota, Lori (William) Lyness of Rowley, and Kevin (Jeanine) Mott of St. Louis, Missouri; seven grandchildren, Dalton Williams, Abby (Jeremy) Mullin, Alecia (Shane) Williams, Adam (Morgan) Lyness, Emily Mott, Logan Mott, and Moriah Mott; three great-grandchildren; and one sister, Shirley Cosbohn of Texas.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ralph Hemesath in 1989; her brother, Warren (Rosie) Kiefer; a brother-in-law, George Cosbohn; and a granddaughter, Sarah Williams.
