Mary Esther Thole Koch

Mary Esther Thole Koch, of Lamont, Iowa, left this world to her heavenly home on March 23, 2022, the 71st anniversary of her father’s death, at Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. She was born on December 31, 1924, in Edgewood, the daughter of Walter and Pauline (Putz) Thyne.  Mary was the oldest surviving Edgewood High School graduate and worked many years in Arthur grocery store in Edgewood.

On January 11, 1947, Mary was united in marriage to Raymond J. Thole in Edgewood. In this marriage, two daughters, Linda and Rozann, were born. In 1948, Ray and Mary bought a farm in the Lamont area where she resided until her recent illness. Mary worked over 25 years at the Miller-Wohl clothing store in Oelwein. Ray passed away in 1986.

In May, 1990, Mary married LaVern Koch. Mary and LaVern enjoyed their little rides in the countryside and family outings during the summer. They enjoyed spending their winters with friends in Florida. LaVern died in 2019.

Survivors include her daughters Linda (Tim) Mathews of Clearwater Beach, Florida, and Rozann (Bill) Dallenbach of Volga; four grandchildren, Amy (John) Boyce Giunta, Shannon (Bryce) Dallenbach Durbin, Dustin (Vahida) Dallenbach, and Amber (Paul) Burlage; nine great grandchildren and many loving extended family and friends. Mary is also survived by six stepchildren, Elaine (Ken) Westin of Fredericksburg, Doris (Alan) Flexenhar of West Des Moines, Karen Meyers of Strawberry Point, Ann (Jerry) Flexenhar of Winthrop, Larry (Chelley) of Aurora, and Steve (Becky) of Oelwein.

Mary is predeceased by her parents, Walter and Pauline; her husband, Raymond Thole, her husband, LaVern Koch; her brother, John (Prudence) Thyne; and her two sisters who died infancy, Dorothy and Elizabeth Rose.
