Mary Anna "Anna Mary" (Coonrod) Hostert

Mary Anna “Anna Mary” Hostert, 98, passed away on Wednesday, November 15, 2023, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids. She was born on January 6, 1925, in Cedar Rapids, the daughter of Arthur and Mary (Wilson) Coonrod. Anna Mary was raised and educated in the Marion and Anamosa areas and was a 1943 graduate of Anamosa High School. She then graduated from the Regina School of Nursing in Albuquerque, New Mexico, on June 2, 1947.

On November 18, 1950, Anna Mary was united in marriage to Albert Hostert at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Anamosa. Five children were born to this union and together they farmed northeast of Manchester. Anna Mary worked as a nurse at St. Luke’s Hospital, John McDonald Hospital in Monticello, and Delaware County Memorial Hospital.

Anna Mary was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. She served on the Delaware County Board of Health. Anna Mary enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, painting, and reading. Anna Mary loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include her four children, Robert “Bob” Hostert of Ryan, Thomas “Tom” (Cathy Splichal) Hostert of Gainesville, Florida, Ellen (Gerry Zegers) Hostert of Machias, Maine, and Mary Carol (Eric Cline) Cross of Sully; ten grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anna Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Albert in 2007; a son, Joseph, in infancy; brother, Joseph Coonrod; and two sisters, Betty (John) Wacker and Audrey (Mike) Brewer.
