Michael Joseph Peyton, 72, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away peacefully, after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family, on Monday, September 8, 2025, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on March 5, 1953, in Manchester, the son of John, Jr. and Phyllis (Coleman) Peyton. Mike was raised and educated in the Manchester area, graduating from West Delaware High School in 1971. After high school, Mike started his life-long career at Hutchison Lumber and Building Products the following Monday.
On June 16, 1973, Mike was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Deborah Charlton, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Three children were born to this union. For more than 54 years, Mike worked at Hutchison Lumber and Building Products, where he was a dedicated employee, whom never filled out a job application in his life. He was a lifelong supporter of all West Delaware activities and a longtime member of the Booster Club. Mike enjoyed spending time at their lake home referred to as Mike and “Dears” cabin. He enjoyed the weekly routine of Sunday family dinners and being surrounded by his loving family and his many friends. Time spent with and watching his grandkids’ activities brought him joy and he loved being known as “Bumpa” to all of them.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Deb Peyton of Manchester; his three children and their families, Mitch and Angie Peyton, with their family Jadyn (significant other, Avery Krapfl), Logan, Norah, and Jack; Ryan and Emily Peyton, with their family, Mia and Macoy; and Molly and Pat Brouillette and their family Michael and Owen, all of Manchester; two siblings, Jack (Ruth) Peyton of Manchester, and Pam Lindauer of Manchester; his sisters- and brothers-in-law, Pam (Tim) Davidson of Atlanta, Georgia, Barb (Jeffrey) Metreyeon of Nederland, Texas, Bruce (Maridee) Charlton of Santa Cruz, California, and Becky Charlton of San Antonio, Texas; his nieces and nephews; and his many friends.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, John, Jr. and Phyllis Peyton; parents-in-law, Stu and Lois Charlton; and his brother-in-law, Jerry Lindauer.
