Mildred Berniece Wendt, 96, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2024. She was born on June 22, 1928, on a farm south of Thorpe, the daughter of Fred and Martha (Moser) Woellert. Berniece was raised and educated in the Manchester area and graduated from Manchester High School in 1946. After graduation Berniece worked at National Tea (grocery) for two and a half years.
On October 23, 1949, Berniece was united in marriage to Willis Wendt after meeting him at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Delaware. Two children were born to this union. Berniece and Willis moved to a farm near Manchester where they farmed for 11 years before buying a farm near Dundee in 1961 and living there until 1986. They then moved to Oelwein for a couple of years before moving to their acreage by the golf course near Strawberry Point. After Willis’s passing in 1992, Berniece began working at Walmart in Manchester for 13 years. Berniece then moved to Manchester in 2017.
Berniece enjoyed gardening vegetables and flowers. She was a member of a gardening club and enjoyed putting up her harvest and sharing it with others. Berniece enjoyed feeding birds, playing cards, and baking. She was an active member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester.
Survivors include her children, Lois (Clifford) Wilson of Moorhead, Iowa and Steven (Sue) Wendt of Knoxville, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Kristen (Eric) Marlin, Matthew Clemon, Justin (Ashley) Wendt, Christopher (Melissa) Wendt, Trevor (Carrie) Wilson, Ashley (James) McFarland, and Lauren (Weston) Wendt; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Janet Woellert; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Berniece was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Willis in 1992; and her siblings, Harold (Gail) Woellert, Wilma (Roger) Kelley, Marian Woellert, Eugene (Darlene) Woellert, Ronnie (Diane) (Leona) Woellert, and Maynard Woellert.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be given to the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manchester, Iowa.
