Myrna Lorene Culbertson, 90, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home after a long battle with dementia. She was born on October 4, 1935, in Edgewood, the daughter of Alton “Tony” and Dorothy (Ellison) Jewell. Myrna attended country school until moving to Edgewood where she graduated from high school in 1954.
On February 12, 1955, Myrna was united in marriage to Harry Culbertson at Trinity Methodist Church in Edgewood. Two daughters were born to this union. The couple farmed together near Edgewood for many years.
Myrna was a past Worthy Advisor of Rainbow Girls and also active in Pythian Sisters, where she was a past Most Excellent Chief. She loved farming, gardening, and raising flowers. Myrna also enjoyed time spent with the gals on the golf course and at league bowling.
Survivors include her daughter, Sue (Ken Boeckenstedt) Basten of Edgewood; two grandchildren, Krieg (Becky Hammer) Basten of Edgewood and Salina (Jeff Allison) Basten of Waukon; two great-grandchildren, Reese Allison and Jack Allison, both of Waukon; son-in-law, John Harris of Cedar Falls; brother, Kenneth (Mary Ann) Jewell of East Dubuque; sister, Jeanette “Tully” (Don) Garbers of Palm Harbor, Florida; and several nieces and a nephew.
Myrna was preceded in death by her husband, Harry on October 18, 2025; her daughter, Lori Culbertson-Harris on August 13, 2025; her parents; parents-in-law; and a nephew, Mark Wise.
The family wishes to express many thanks to the great staff at the Edgewood Convalescent Home for the wonderful care given to Mom over the past five years.
Memorials may be directed to the Edgewood Fire Department and Edgewood Ambulance.
**The family invites everyone to join them for a time of fellowship in the church hall at Trinity United Methodist Church immediately following the committal.
**Military rites for Harry Culbertson will be conducted at the cemetery following the service.
