Nell Jean “Jean” Taylor, 96, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 12, 2023, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester, Iowa. She was born on December 21, 1926, in Sarasota, Florida, the daughter of John and Florence (Reeves) Granger. Jean was raised and educated in Sarasota and was a 1944 graduate of Sarasota High School. After high school, she worked on a military base where she met the love of her life, Howard Taylor.
On September 14, 1946, Jean and Howard were united in marriage in Sarasota. Seven children were born to this union. The couple farmed together north of Masonville. In November 1993 they moved to Manchester.
Jean was a longtime member of the Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, especially when on the farm. Above all else, Jean loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include her six children, Janice Everitt of Strawberry Point, Joyce (Thomas) Bulgier of Huntsville, Texas, Jacquelyn (Bruce) Brandes of Sealy, Texas, Russell (Michelle) Taylor of Fairfax, Randall (Cheryl) Taylor of Manchester, and Lynn (James) Mischke of Van Horne; ten grandchildren, Kari (Jeff Hannen) Coleson, Kelli (Kirk) Postl, Jeffrey Rittmer, Jason Bulgier, Nicolas (Ashley) Brandes, Stephen Brandes, Matthew Taylor, Zachery Taylor, Scott Taylor, and Christopher Mischke; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two half-sisters, Audry Taylor and Laura Winters; sister-in-law, Vera Gienapp; and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Howard; daughter, Joan Andrews; two grandchildren, Jacob Taylor and Kimberly Henry; two great-grandchildren, Ryeland Brandes and Cody Henry; and siblings, Reeves (Mary) Granger and Glynis (Alton) Hawkins.
