Nelson White Obituary

Nelson Edwin White, 66, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away Saturday, May 2, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. Nelson, the son of Edwin and Velma (Martin) White, was born April 9, 1954, in Guttenburg.  He attended school at the Edgewood-Colesburg Community Schools.  Nelson worked as a self-employed logger, and owned his own business known as White logging.

 

 Nelson was an avid fisherman, who enjoyed fishing trips with his son, Douglas, and good friends, Ted Wieland and Emil Tisl.  He also enjoyed fishing with his son-in-law, James and grandkids, Marissa and Morgan.  He enjoyed goose hunting with his brother-in-law, Gary Willie, and deer hunting with family.  He also enjoyed the outdoors and mushroom hunting.  In his spare time, he loved spending time with his family, playing cards, and playing music.  He always enjoyed picking-and-grinning with his father Edwin and family.

 

Nelson is survived by his wife, Debra of 42 years; seven children, Natalie (James) Poole of Edgewood, Douglas (Teresa) Bunting of Edgewood, Dana White of Rockwell City, Dawn White of Manchester, Derek White of Waverly, Dan (Monique) White of Waterloo ,and Chris (Renee) Hankes of Waukon; 13 grandkids; 3 great-grandkids.  Surviving siblings include, Pam (Gary) Willie of Elkader, Mark (Denise) White of Manchester, and Gayle Goranson of Cedar Rapids.

 

Nelson was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Velma White; a sister, Diane White, his parents-in-law, Burdette and Pauline Burgin; and a special nephew, Dean Burgin.

 

Nelson’s wishes were to be cremated with no services.

 

A special thank you to Dr. Wood and Nicole Long of Hall-Perine Cancer Center, staff at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, the amazing staff at Above and Beyond Hospice Care in Monticello, and to all the wonderful staff and support that our family received in this difficult time, and being such a comfort to Nelson.
