Norma Venteicher Obituary

Norma Jean Venteicher, 94, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Friday, September 19, 2025, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. She was born on December 30, 1930, at home on the farm in New Vienna, the daughter of Alphonse and Alvina (Pape) Klostermann. Norma was raised and educated in the New Vienna area and attended St. Boniface Grade and High School, graduating with the Class of 1949. After graduation Norma worked on the family farm.

On September 10, 1951, Norma was united in marriage to Paul Venteicher at St. Boniface Church in New Vienna, after meeting him through mutual neighbors. Eight children were born to this union. Together they farmed west of Edgewood for 57 years. Norma was a farm wife from the first day she and Paul began their married life. She was a meticulous book keeper; she knew everything about spending and selling on the farm. That knowledge has definitely been carried on in her sons and grandsons who now own and operate the farms that Paul and Norma started.  They moved to Edgewood in 2008.

Norma was a devoted member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She was active with church activities, held office in the Rosary Society, was a CCD teacher and a founding member of St. Mark’s Choir for 50 years. Norma was also a 4-H leader. She taught many young girls how to sew, cook, and craft things.

Norma always had a big garden and canned a lot of vegetables and fruit. She loved cooking for family gatherings-her raisin cream pie was always a demand. Norma loved to quilt and made many quilts for every member of her family and for church activities. Norma loved her family and was always glad to have them come and visit her.

Survivors include her two sons, David (Ann) Venteicher of Manchester, and Richard Venteicher of Edgewood; five daughters, Dorothy (Clark) Palmer of Manchester, Janice (Ken) Boesenberg of Manchester, Karen (Lynn) Brunsman of Dundee, Rose Mary (Bill) Hunt of Earlville, and Joyce (Mike) Anderson of Kane, Pennsylvania; 20 grandchildren; 40 great grandchildren; one great great-grandchild; and her sister Marian Klostermann of New Vienna.

Norma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 62 years, Paul Venteicher in 2013; son, Mark Venteicher; daughter-in-law, Donna Venteicher, son-in-law, Gregg Engelken; sister, Delores (Bernard) Neuhaus; brother, Gerald (Janet) Klostermann; parents-in-law, Anton (Margaret) Venteicher, and sisters and brothers-in-law, Anita (Clarence) Eike, Wilma (Francis) Holtz, and Vera (LaVerne) Fischels.

Memorials may be directed to the Edgewood Convalescent Home, St. Mark Catholic Church, or Care Initiatives Hospice.
