Paul Eugene Engert, 74, formerly of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023, at the Oelwein Health Care Center in Oelwein. He was born on November 6, 1949, in Fredericksburg, the son of Ruben and Lucynda (Niemeyer) Engert. Paul was a graduate of Tripoli High School.
On June 28, 1969, Paul was united in marriage to Martha Price in Tripoli. Two children were born to this union. The family resided in Strawberry Point. Paul managed several businesses including the Frudden Lumber Yard in Strawberry Point, Great Plains in Elkader, and Double L in Dyersville. He then worked at Norby’s Farm Fleet in Manchester. Paul also worked part time at Strawberry Point Foods. Martha passed away in 2012. Paul resided at Arlington Place in Oelwein for several years before moving to the Oelwein Health Care Center.
For many years, Paul was a member of the Strawberry Point Fire Department and was an EMT. He was also a member of the Jaycees. Paul enjoyed golfing and fishing. He also liked playing cards and camping.
Survivors include his daughter, Kristie (Greg) Reinhardt of Strawberry Point; one sister, Ruth Ann (Steve) Gaede of Denver; two nieces, Erica and Stephanie; and a sister-in-law, Linda (Rand) Hakenson.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Martha Engert; his son, Stacy Engert in 2001; and a sister in infancy.
