Roger Glenn Wilson, 83, of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 20, 2024, at Terrance Glen Village in Marion, Iowa. He was born on May 4, 1941, in Lamont, the son of Glenn and Marian (Kemp) Wilson. Roger had one sibling, Richard “Dick”, his “kid brother” who preceded him in death in 2014. Roger attended St. Patrick’s Catholic School in Ryan and graduated in 1959.
On June 4, 1960, Roger was united in marriage to Kay Supple. They had three children, Michelle, Sherrie, and Steve. Roger owned and operated service stations in Ryan early in his work life. Later, he was the Maintenance Manager for group homes in Cedar Rapids for residents with special needs. Roger truly valued this career of passion. He so enjoyed working with his daughters in the summers, and formed many friendships resulting from his 32 years of employment with REM, IA.
Roger enjoyed restoring antique cars and tractors. It was an annual family affair to attend the Midwest Old Threshers Reunion in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, to display his tractors and enjoy the craftmanship and camaraderie with others. At Christmas time, we all secretly were wishing Roger had our name, because he handcrafted many unique
family gifts from wood and metal.
Roger loved spending time in his yard and garden, loved yellow in the spring, listening to the birds, and sharing his pepper jelly with others. He was a humble and gentle soul and cherished his family. Those who knew him recognized his generous spirit and understood the powerful language of a man of few words.
Roger is survived by his wife of 64 years, Kay Wilson of Ryan; three children, Michelle (Pat Schmidt) Wilson of Marion, Sherrie (Joanne Bell) Wilson of Des Moines, and Steve (Heather) Wilson of Algonquin, Illinois; two grandchildren, Ian Wilson of Columbus, Ohio, and Marian Wilson of Kalamazoo, Michigan; sister-in-law, Sharon Wilson of Ryan; nephews, Tim, Kelly, and Kevin Wilson, niece, Tracy Traver and their families.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Richard “Dick” Wilson.
Rog/Dad/Grandpa, you will forever be in our hearts. To Rog’s friends and family, he says Toodaloo.
Roger’s family would like to thank the staff at Terrace Glenn Village for their compassionate care of Roger.
