Ronald Joseph Putz, a cherished son, brother, father, uncle, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2024, at the age of 62 after a short illness at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids.
Ron was born on October 8, 1961, in Manchester, to Fred and Grace (Lueck) Putz. He was raised and educated in Strawberry Point and was a 1980 graduate of Starmont High School. Ron spent his early years working alongside his father and siblings on the family farm. He eventually left farming and spent many of his working years as a heavy equipment operator; over 20 years with Kevin Kraus at Kraus Construction.
Ron found solace and joy in the great outdoors, whether tending to his lawn, playing with his beloved dog, Buster, or casting his line into tranquil waters. Fishing was one of his greatest joys. Many cherished memories were made as he spent countless hours by the riverbanks with friends and family enjoying a good story and the thrill of the catch.
Ron approached life with simplicity. His stories of early life on the farm, late nights with friends, and the “big one” that got away were shared with a boisterous laugh that will be deeply missed.
Ron is survived by his mother, Grace Putz of Robins; one son, Kade Harris of Manchester; four siblings, Barb (Jack) Hendercott of LeClere, Tom (Barb) Putz of North Liberty, Steve (Billie) Putz of Manchester, and Susan (Kurt) Stallman of Robins; and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was preceded in death by his father; two sisters, Mary Ann and Shirley; nephew, Seth Seibert; and niece, Kayla Putz.
