Ruth Anne (Dunlap) Bacon

Ruth Anne Bacon, 77, of Coggon, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, August 29, 2021, at her home. She was born on June 2, 1944, in Coggon, the daughter of Clyde and Mary Maude (Cornell) Dunlap. She was raised and educated in the Coggon area.

On April 9, 1961, Ruth was united in marriage to Marlowe Bacon at Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan. Three daughters were born to this union. Together the couple farmed near Coggon. 

Ruth enjoyed sewing and taught several classes at Kirkwood Community College. She was a caregiver to family and friends. Ruth started the Faith Mission Shop in Coggon. During the 1970’s and 80’s, she wrote her column, “Farm Wife”, for the Delaware County Leader. Ruth enjoyed baking and gardening. She spent many hours canning produce from her garden. Ruth loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.

Survivors include her three daughters, Inez (Scot) Gronewold of Olin, Dana (Joseph) Pasker of Manchester, and Renee (Barry) Francois of Coggon; seven grandchildren, John (Jamie) Gronewold, Amanda (Don) Kintzle, Danielle (Lucas Pederson) Hutchinson, Sarah (Justin) Rieken, Joseph (Kara) Pasker, Braxton (Zach) Weber, and Breanna (Cameron Nesler) Milburn; 12 great-grandchildren, with one on the way; four siblings, Curtis (Linda) Dunlap of Manchester, Vivian Thompson of New Mexico, Wendy Dunlap of Muscatine, and Wanda (Dave) Klaren of Hopkinton; and many nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Marlowe in 2009; seven brothers, Kenneth, Craig, Anthony, Clyde Jr., Kevin, Terry, and Ricky; and one sister, Sandra Dunlap.
