Sandra Lee (Fenchel) Taken

Sandra Lee Taken, 81, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, December 16, 2022, at her home after a short illness. She was born on February 2, 1941, near Strawberry Point, the daughter of Joseph and Marion (Seibert) Fenchel. Sandra grew up in Greeley, living with her grandparents, Laura and Ernest Seibert. She graduated from Greeley High School.

On December 16, 1960, Sandra was united in marriage to Lawrence Taken at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Sandra spent her adult life working on the family farm. In 2006, Sandra retired from active farm work and spent much of her time gardening and visiting with family and friends.

Sandra was a talented cook and especially loved to bake breads, desserts, and Christmas candies. Sandra cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, spending as much time with them as possible.

Sandra will be deeply missed by her husband of 62 years, Lawrence Taken of Manchester; her two children, Joseph (Patty) Taken of Springfield, Missouri, and Jennifer (Keith) Kritz of Edgewood; three grandchildren, Benjamin Taken of Springfield, Missouri, Jacob Taken of Kansas City, Missouri, and Jacob Kritz of Edgewood; two great-grandchildren, Cheyanne and Jeremiah Kritz of Edgewood; brothers-in-law, Don Vertz of San Francisco, California, and Almore Taken of Cedar Rapids; sisters-in-law, Betty Taken and Barb Schnipkoweit, both of Cedar Rapids; special aunt, Pearl Seibert of Manchester; and many nieces and nephews.

Sandra was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Fenchel and Marion Wiest; grandparents, Ernest and Laura Seibert and Jacob and Agnes Fenchel; very special uncles, Aldonn, Clifford, Milan, Charles, and Leon Seibert; great-grandson, James Kritz; brother-in-law, Walter (Arelene) Taken; and sister-in-law, Theresa Taken-Vertz.
