Sara W. Bennett, of Scottsdale, Arizona, formerly of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Sagewood-Senior Living in Phoenix, Arizona. She was born on February 4, 1930, in Clarksburg, West Virginia, the daughter of Louis and Elinor (Horner) Wilson. Sara was raised and educated in the area and graduated from Clarksburg, West Virginia High School. She then furthered her education at Randolf-Macon Women’s College and the University of West Virginia.
In 1952, Sara married her college sweetheart, H. B. “Buck” Bennett. Five children were born to this union. Sara and Buck moved back to Iowa in 1955 where Sara was a wonderful housewife and mother and supporter of Buck’s business, Bennett Explosives. In 1982, Sara and Buck began to spend time in Arizona along with their time in Iowa.
Sara was the number one fan of her children and a 4-H leader. She was an active volunteer at Mayo Clinic, Arizona, specifically with ALS patients. Sara was very involved in the Presbyterian Church, was a member of the PEO, and loved playing tennis and traveling. Her greatest joy was time spent with family and friends.
Survivors include her five children, Sue (Larry) Orischak of Scottsdale, Arizona, Robert (Barbara) Bennett of Denver, Colorado, Rebecca (Patrick) Dolan of Manchester, William (Roxann) Bennett of Elizabeth, Colorado, and Beverly (Patrick) Hansen of Phoenix, Arizona; nine grandchildren, Thomas (Renee) Clemen, Elinor (Aaron Almeroth) Dolan, John (Angie) Dolan, Robert (Blair) Dolan, Brett Bennett, Bradley Bennett, Matthew Hansen, Nathan (Allison) Hansen, and Samuel Hansen; and seven great-grandchildren.
Sara was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Buck Bennett; two granddaughters, Elizabeth Clemen and Margaret Dolan; and her sister, Ann Garrett.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, Manchester, Iowa and the ALS organization in Des Moines, Iowa.
