Sharon Baumgartner Obituary

Sharon Lynn Baumgartner, 80, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, June 19, 2022, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester, Iowa. She was born on September 8, 1941, in Big Rapids, Michigan, the daughter of Victor and Laila (Oleson) Warner. Sharon was raised in Big Rapids, Michigan, and was a 1959 graduate of Big Rapids High School.

After graduation, Sharon moved to Arlington, Virginia, and worked in the Navy Annex. There she met her future husband, Daryl, who was a guard at the Arlington National Cemetery. On July 26, 1961, Sharon was united in marriage to Daryl Baumgartner at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. The couple then moved to Strawberry Point in 1961 where they raised their family. Four children were born to this union. They were married 28 years before Daryl passed away on August 25, 1989.

Some of Sharon’s jobs over the years included: Sunnyside Greenhouse in Manchester, manager of Skyline Roller Rink in Strawberry Point, Jessen’s SuperValu in Strawberry Point, and cashier cage at Meskwaki Casino and Bingo in Tama, Iowa. She enjoyed gardening and taking annual camping trips to Adventureland Park with family and close friends. Sharon enjoyed sitting on her porch and visiting with her special friends and neighbors. Above all else, Sharon loved her family and cherished time with her partner of 22 years, Kevin Kitzman. Together they enjoyed playing bingo, going to Las Vegas, watching Las Vegas’ San Fernando Band, and watching hummingbirds on the porch. Kevin’s loving care was a blessing to the Baumgartner family.

Sharon is survived by her four children, Thomas (Misty) Baumgartner of Mason City, Janet (Jim) Hansen of Independence, David Baumgartner of Strawberry Point, and Daryl Baumgartner, Jr of Edgewood; nine grandchildren, Holly, Ryan, Keegan, Delaney, Haley, Vienna, Brock, Cayden, and Decker; one step grandchild, Miranda; one great-grandchild, Sawyer; one step great-grandchild, Brielle; one sister, Diana Jones of Harrison, Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn Baumgartner of Strawberry Point and Nancy Warner of Kalamazoo, Michigan; a brother-in-law, Wayne Thurn of Edgewood; her longtime partner, Kevin Kitzman of Strawberry Point; and several nieces and nephews.
