Sharon Rose Heims, 78, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, May 31, 2024, at her home in Manchester, from complications of pulmonary fibrosis. She was born on June 12, 1945, in Dyersville, to Rosie (Egloff) Vorwald and Vincent Vorwald, growing up in the Worthington, Peosta and Edgewood areas. She attended Edgewood-Colesburg School, graduating in 1963.
Sharon met Jim Heims at a Worthington dance, and they were married July 8, 1967, at St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood. She had a love for food and worked at the St. Mary food service for 10 years and the West Delaware food service for 20 years.
Her love for helping others led to much volunteering. She helped with St. Mary Parish Providers, Social Justice Committee, Second Helpings, the American Legion Auxiliary Post 45, and the Delaware County Fair 4-H Food Stand.
Sharon and Jim loved country music and enjoyed going to dances and concerts. Wednesday nights used to be their dance night in Dubuque. They enjoyed seeing many states and events on their trips and loved going to county fairs.
Sharon also loved gardening, her flowers, cooking, and baking. She attended many sporting events, dance, cheerleading and church programs for her great nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly.
Survivors include her husband of 56 years, Jim Heims of Manchester; her daughter, Carla (Dave) Scherbring of Mt. Vernon; her sister, Ruth Atkinson of Strawberry Point; brothers, Dick (Judy) Vorwald and Randy (Cindy) Vorwald of Edgewood, and Steve (Sherri) Vorwald of Manchester; her 10 special great nieces and nephews from Manchester; Red Goldsmith of Delhi, and Darlene Heims of Manchester; and all her many relatives and dear friends.
Sharon was preceded in death by her parents; grandparents Greg (Theresa) Vorwald and Edward (Lena) Egloff; brother Robert “Bob” Vorwald; mother and father-in-law Ray (Helen) Heims; sisters and brothers -in-law, Loras (Betty) Kremer, Loren (Irene) Salow, Donald Heims, Ann Goldsmith, and Jerry Heims.
