Shirley Lou Richmond, 90, of Anamosa, formerly of Ryan, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Cedar Rapids surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on September 20, 1935, in Anamosa, the daughter of Alfred and Mildred (Julfs) Dirks. Shirley was raised and educated in Anamosa.
On April 2, 1951, Shirley was united in marriage to Donald H. Richmond in Anamosa. Six children were born to this union. Shirley worked for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for twenty years, retiring as an inspector. Shirley also worked alongside her husband as custodians for St. Patrick Catholic Church for eight years and at Knight Hawk Security for two years.
Shirley loved to garden, especially planting flowers. She also enjoyed going to the casino, sitting on her porch and doing ceramics. Shirley loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Survivors include her five children, Andy “Butch” (Lynn) Richmond of Ryan, Linda (Daniel) Fangmann of Earlville, Tom Richmond of Anamosa, Dee (Mark) Kolka of Ryan, and Shannon (Philip) Payne of Ryan; son-in-law, Joe McNamara of Ryan; 15 grandchildren, Angie (Michael) Corcoran of Ryan, Stacey (Jason) Haight of Manchester, Chad (Amber) McNamara of Cedar Rapids, Amy Richmond of Ryan, Chris (Dannette) Richmond of Ryan, Eric (Amber) Loney of Monticello, Heather (Ryan) Amfahr of Winthrop, Trent (Jenny) Kolka of Ryan, Cody (Colleen) Kolka of Sabula, Brooke (Evan) Kolka of Dubuque, Shyla (Tyler) Thomas of Waterloo, Hunter Kolka of Ryan, Abbie (Jesse) Keener of Ryan, Haley (Mitch) Helle of Delhi, and Collin (Emily) Payne of Ryan; several great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; sister, Ellie Snyder of Monticello; sister-in-law, Lorene Richmond of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Donald Richmond; daughter, Lois McNamara; sister, Judy Dirks; brothers, Lester (Gloria) Dirks, James (Ann) Dirks, and Lee (Thelma) Dirks; and three great-grandsons, Raymond Richmond, Lincoln Keener and Maddax Keener.
