Susan K Kirby, 77, formerly of Littleport and West Union, Iowa, passed away on Monday, May 18, 2026, at The Highlands in Decorah. Susan Marie Kirby was born October 26, 1948, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Augustine and Erma (Davis) Kirby. She was a 1966 graduate of Edgewood-Colesburg High School and received two degrees from Mount Mercy College. She briefly taught junior high school, then spent most of her working life as a Certified Public Accountant.
She enjoyed playing the flute, reading, doing crossword puzzles, attending her children’s and grandchildren’s extracurricular activities, listening to music, playing cards, and spending time with her family and friends.
Survivors include her children, John (Sherry) Wiley of Elkader, Kristen Wiley (Rex Southwick) of Roseburg, Oregon, Megan (Jeremy) Schellhorn of Monona, and Mark (Katie) Wiley of Littleport; eight grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Alivia, and Shannon Wiley, Abby and Jacob Schellhorn, and Emersyn, Nora, and Crayten Wiley; brothers, Dennis (Marcia) Kirby of Edgewood, David (Mary) Kirby of Edgewood, and Craig (Georgia) Kirby of Colesburg; sister-in-law, Linda Kirby of Manchester; half-sister, Lisa; and many nieces and nephews.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Douglas; and a sister in infancy.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to your local public school music or athletics program or your local public library.
The family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff at The Highlands and St. Croix Hospice for the wonderful care they provided to Susan.
