Susan “Susie” Lynn Weger, 72, of Elkader, Iowa, passed away on Friday, March 25, 2022, at the Elkader Care Center in Elkader. She was born on August 30, 1949, in Oelwein, the daughter of Donald and Luella (Hoskyn) Weger. Susie grew up on the Weger family farm northwest of Strawberry Point where she enjoyed riding her horse through the pastures and woods in the neighborhood. She attended St. Luke’s School of Nursing, worked as a dietary aid at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home, and eventually moved to Portland, Oregon.
Susie worked at Columbia Sportswear in Portland. Due to poor health, she returned to Iowa in 2006. She was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. Susie had a special interest in Civil War history, taking several trips to Civil War battlegrounds and historic sites. She enjoyed reading and watching tv. The evenings she spent watching tv with her nephew, Jeff Knehans, were special times for her.
