Theresa Marie Callahan

Theresa Marie Callahan, 53, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, October 3, 2021, in the comfort of her home surrounded by family. She was born on August 6, 1968, in Cleveland, Ohio, the daughter of Thomas and Catherine (Jaroscak) Callahan. Theresa was raised by her godparents, Andrew and Terri Jaroscak in Macedonia, Ohio, and was a 1986 graduate of Nordonia High School. After graduation she attended Northeast Iowa Community College and later American Public University.

Theresa was united in marriage to Chris Kirby for 20 years. A daughter, Elizabeth, was born to this union. Three more children Lori, C.J., and Jamie, completed the family. Theresa and Chris accepted guardianship of three of their grandchildren, Kyle Sherman, Aaron Lee, and Kenzie Lee, and have been blessed with a larger family to love and cherish.

Theresa was a paramedic and the ambulance director for the city of Strawberry Point. She was a beautiful soul inside and out. Theresa loved volunteering her time to help the community. She would often be found teaching classes or attending school events. Theresa loved her family more than anything and loved traveling with them. She loved and cherished the time spent with them. Theresa was a detailed storyteller and everything she did had a story to go with it.

Survivors left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chris Kirby; her four children, Elizabeth Kirby of Strawberry Point, Lori (Nate) Lee of San Antonio, Texas, C. J. Johanns of Cedar Rapids, and Jamie Sherman of Ohio; 4 grandchildren, Kyle, Aaron, Kenzie, and Ethan; her parents, Andrew and Terri Jaroscak of Ohio; her siblings, Sharon Callahan, Thomas (Elizabeth) Callahan, Laura Westfall, Tim (Teresa) Jaroscak, and Scott (Stacey) Jaroscak; her parents-in-law, Sandy and Kenny Kirby; her brothers- and sisters-in-law, Mike Kirby, Mark Kirby, Robin (Bruce) Fliehler, Missy (Andy) Waterhouse, and Becky Kirby.

Theresa was preceded in death by her biological mother, Catherine Callahan; her grandmother, Elizabeth Jaroscak; and aunt and uncle, Betty and Terry Malone.
