Velma Irene Bunting, 94, of Edgewood, Iowa, formerly of Littleport, passed away on Friday, March 20, 2020, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home, surrounded by as many family members as possible. She was born on August 28, 1925, near Lamont, the daughter of Alfred and Irene Bush. Velma was raised and educated in the Lamont area attending country school.
On September 14, 1949, Velma was united in marriage to Douglas Wayne Bunting in Manchester. Six children were blessed to this union. Together they farmed near Littleport until 1988, when they retired to a small acreage near Littleport. In August of 2010, she moved to Lincolnwood Assisted Living in Edgewood.
Velma loved spending time gardening, mushroom hunting, anything outside. She spent a lot of time quilting at the church in Littleport and attending Christian Women’s Club activities. She spent many hours helping out at the Edgewood Bible Church with Bible School, funerals, and various activities. Velma attended senior dinners at the Greeley Commercial Club and enjoyed playing cards. She also enjoyed family reunions.
Survivors include her children Linda Forsythe of Manchester, William (Mary), James (Lori), and Thomas (Lori) Bunting all of Edgewood, and Susan (Mike) Schams of Holmen, Wisconsin; 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren; a sister, Gladys Mason of Wyoming; and a brother, Marion (Patti) Bush of Fredericksburg.
Velma was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Douglas “Wayne”; a son, Martin Bunting; four brothers, Duane, Donald, Howard, and Robert Bush; and a son-in-law, Floyd Forsythe.
Physically attending a funeral now is not in everyone’s best health interest, and Velma’s family notes that attendance by prayer is acceptable.
A special Thank You to all the staff at Lincolnwood and Edgewood Convalescent Home for their love and care.
