Verla Mae Schultz, 91, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood. She was born on July 13, 1932, in rural Strawberry Point, the daughter of Mike and Alta (Smock) Miller. Verla was raised and educated in Strawberry Point and was a 1950 graduate of Strawberry Point High School.
On November 21, 1952, Verla was united in marriage to Eugene “Gene” Schultz at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. One son was born to this union. The couple resided in Edgewood for their entire married life. Gene passed away on March 16, 2015.
Verla was a longtime member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She worked for the Vernon Funeral Home, the Variety Store, and did childcare for many years.
Survivors include her son, Newell Schultz of Gulfport, Mississippi; two grandchildren, Michael and Staci; one great-grandson, Marcus; one sister-in-law, Mary Lee Farmer of Marion; special friend, Deb Weigel; honorary granddaughters, Mica (Josh) Geistkemper, Ciara (Spencer) Rave, and Tessa (Kyle) Kelchen; and many nieces and nephews.
Verla was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene Schultz; four sisters, LaVaune Feulner, Helen Downey, Jeanette Gibson, and Shirley “Pat” Galloway; two brothers, Homer Miller and Mike Miller, Jr.; and one grandson, Sean.
