Verna Marie (Thacher) Fergesen

Verna Marie Fergesen, 95, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 18, 2023, at Marietta’s Place in Manchester. She was born on February 25, 1928, in Manchester, the daughter of Floyd and Mildred (Pierce) Thacher. Verna was raised and educated in Manchester and was a 1945 graduate of Manchester High School.

On January 26, 1947, Verna was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart, Frank Fergesen, at the United Methodist Church in Manchester. Four children were born to this union, Rhonda, Ashley "Kevin", Randy, and LeMoine. Verna was a member of First Baptist Church, was the past president and member of Delaware County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and a member of The Order of the Eastern Star. She was an avid bridge player. Verna was well known in the area for many years as a vocal soloist and was privileged to have sung soprano solos in the local presentation of “The Messiah” for 13 years. Verna loved the Lord, her family and friends, and had a passion for music. She always had a song in her heart.

Survivors include her four children, Rhonda Lane of Davenport, Ashley "Kevin" (Linda) Fergesen of Manchester, Randall (Marcia) Fergesen of Manchester, and LeMoine (Susan) Fergesen of Johnston; 9 grandchildren, Tracey McGinn, Justin (Sarah) Lane, Jessica Fergesen, Jacob (Laura) Fergesen, Anna (Brian) Klaus, Andrea Fousek, Dacia (Marty) Satterlee, Michelle (Doug) Schneider, and Dustin (Nicole) Fergesen; 21 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Elaine Thacher of Albuquerque, New Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.

Verna was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd and Mildred Thacher; her husband, Frank Fergesen; her sister, Naida (Walter) Schaefer; two brothers, Floyd (Vera) Thacher, Jr. and Donald Thacher; son-in-law, Jon Lane; parents-in-law, Ashley and Nicenah Fergesen; brother-in-law, LeMoine Fergesen; and great-grandchildren, Tucker Arnold Schneider and Claire Marie Fergesen.

Memorials will be directed to Marietta's Place.
