Villa "Lou" Louise (Atkinson) Schmock

Villa “Lou” Louise Schmock, 87, of Crescent, Iowa, formally of Manchester, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2025.  She was born on April 4, 1937, in Manchester, the daughter of Harvey and Villa Grace (Wood) Atkinson. Lou graduated from Manchester High School in 1956. She then went to St. Luke’s Nursing college and received her RN degree in 1959.

On September 4, 1960, Lou married her high school sweetheart, Donald Schmock. Two children were born to this union, Catherine and David. Don and Lou spent their lives in the floral industry operating Sunnyside Greenhouse. Lou lost the love of her life when Don passed away in 1988. She later moved to Austin, Minnesota and worked as a registered nurse until her retirement in 2005. Lou then moved back to Manchester to be with her family in 2009. In 2016, she moved to the Council Bluffs area with her son David.

Lou enjoyed her cats, astronomy and spending time with family.

Survivors include her daughter, Catherine (Scott) Wieg of Cedar Rapids and David (Janet) Schmock of Crescent; five grandchildren, Nicole Schmock (Duane Oberhoffer) of Peosta, Scott Koch of Manchester, Derek Schmock (Chrystal Hutchinson) of Dundee, Austin Schmock (Taylor Durbin) of Delhi, and Donald Schmock of Crescent; eight great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Lou is preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Don Schmock; her parents; and a brother Lon (Dorothy) Atkinson.
