Viola Matilda Hackbarth, 89, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 21, 2021, at her home. She was born on September 1, 1932, in Cascade, the daughter of Leo and Matilda (Takes) Breitbach. Viola was a graduate of St. Martin’s High School in Cascade.
On October 28, 1952, Viola was united in marriage to Arthur Hackbarth, Jr., at St. Martin’s Catholic Church in Cascade. She worked as a cook at the West Delaware Middle School until her retirement. Viola liked crocheting, baking, and loved playing cards. She enjoyed taking long walks with her sister. Viola was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and never missed a football or basketball game. She loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Survivors include her four children, Sandy Lawson, Steve (Barb) Hackbarth, and Julie (Mark) Timmons all of Manchester, and Bob (Julie) Hackbarth of Colesburg; 10 grandchildren, Todd (Trish) Lawson, Angie (Ryan) Wicks, Stephanie (John) Georgen, Stacie Hackbarth, Susan (Scott) Shover, Samantha (Mike) Hodson, Matt (McKenzie) Timmons, Mitch (Sara) Timmons, Danielle (Adam) Thurn, and Tyler (Kristin) Hackbarth; 18 great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Harold Hackbarth of Dubuque; and several nieces and nephews.
Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur Hackbarth, Jr.; two brothers; three sisters; one son-in-law, Dave Lawson; and a great-grandson, Ronnie Lawson.
