Walter “Wally” Joseph Vaske, 92, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, December 23, 2021, at his home. He was born on July 25, 1929, at New Vienna, Iowa, the son of Alois and Marcella (Lechtenberg) Vaske. Wally was raised and educated in New Vienna and later Manchester.
On September 23, 1972, Wally was united in marriage to Ellen Sass at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. One son was born to this union. The family resided together in Manchester. Wally worked at John Deere in Waterloo for a time and then worked locally in Manchester at the Case IH Dealership. After retirement he drove bus for St. Paul and West Delaware Schools.
Wally was a longtime faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Wally looked forward to his coffee time at Hardees, and riding his bike. He was a wonderful gardener and thoroughly enjoyed spoiling children.
Survivors include his son, Russell Vaske of Manchester; one sister, Mary Quint of Ryan; two brothers, Gene (Betty) Vaske and Leon (Verna) Vaske, all of Manchester; sister-in-law- Elaine Vaske of Strawberry Point; and many nieces and nephews.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Ellen Vaske; and five brothers, Art (Loretta), Gerald (Mary), Robert, LaVerne (Fran), and Irvin (Jeanette) Vaske; brother-in-law, Sylvester Quint; father-in-law, Lee Sass; mother-in-law, Dawn (Roz) Sayre; and his sister-in-law, Donna (Doc) Hasbrouck.
Because of COVID-19 concerns, masks are recommended at the funeral home and church.
