Wayne Leroy "Butch" Waitman

Wayne Leroy “Butch” Waitman, 64, of Lamont, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2025, at his home surrounded by his family.  He was born on June 12, 1961, in Oelwein, the son of Larry and Judie (Falck) Waitman. He was raised in the Lamont area and was a 1980 graduate of Starmont High School.  After graduation, Butch enlisted and served honorably in the United States Army.

Butch was married to Kathy Hughs. Two children were born to this union. The couple later divorced. On June 5, 2004, Butch was united in marriage to Shelly (Lahey) Jones and welcomed her two sons into the family.

Butch worked at Newport News Shipbuilding in Virginia.  He then worked for and retired from Stryten Energy (Exide) in Manchester.

Butch enjoyed riding his motorcycle and going on fishing trips in Minnesota. He also enjoyed gambling. Butch loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 21+ years, Shelly Waitman of Lamont; four children, Heather Waitman of Davenport, Nick (Megan) Waitman of Muscatine, Kori (Morgan) Jones of Aurora, and Kyle (Mary) Jones of Humbolt; five grandchildren, Garret, Dalton, Brooklyn, Bentley, and Lincoln; and his siblings, JoDee (Craig) Devlin of Lamont and Lenny (Kathy) Waitman of Arlington.

Butch was preceded in death by his parents.
