Wilma Billhorn Obituary

Wilma Kay Billhorn, 75, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 2, 2022, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.  She was born on April 9, 1947, in Dyersville, the daughter of Robert and Germaine (Drees) Weigel. Wilma was raised in the Earlville area and was a 1965 graduate of Maquoketa Valley High School.

 

On June 24, 1967, Wilma was united in marriage to Steve Billhorn at St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. Three children were born to this union. For a short time, Wilma worked at Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids and the Montgomery Ward Catalog Store in Manchester. She worked for 35+ years at St. Paul School of Religion.  Wilma then worked as a paraeducator at West Delaware Schools for over ten years and retired in 2018.

 

Wilma was a longtime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Manchester. She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas, served on the St. Mary Catholic School Board, and was on many church committees over the years. Wilma and Steve enjoyed attending many sporting events together. She was often seen with her camera taking pictures of the athletes in action.

 

Survivors include her husband of 55 years, Steve Billhorn of Manchester; her three children, Stephanie (Mike) Funke of Manchester, Cynthia (Will) Cross of Wichita, Kansas, and Sheridan (Ally) Billhorn of Wilton; six grandchildren, Ashley Schmucker, Tinsley Cross, Austin Schmucker, Drake Billhorn, Taylor Billhorn, and Finley Billhorn; three siblings, LuAnn McQuillen of Manchester, LaVonne “Lovey” Guetzko of Olathe, Kansas, and Joe (Anna) Weigel of Manchester; sisters- and brothers-in-law, Deb Weigel of Manchester, Susan (Jerry) Lee of Manchester, Alan (Di) Billhorn of Des Moines, and Donna Billhorn of Prairie du Sac, Wisconsin; and many nieces and nephews.

 

Wilma was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-and father-in-law, Vic and Eileen Billhorn; four siblings, Marjean Billhorn, Donald “Tiny” Weigel, Marilyn Corcoran, and Kathy Gorkow; and two brothers-in-law, Lance Billhorn and John Billhorn.

In lieu of flowers and gifts, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
