Alice Bockenstedt, 88, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2017, at Marietta’s Place in Manchester. She was born on December 13, 1928, in Earlville, the daughter of William and Stacia (Maiers) Helle. Alice was raised and educated in the Earlville area attending St. Joseph Catholic School.
On January 26, 1948, Alice was united in marriage to William C. “Bud” Bockenstedt at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Earlville. Four children were blessed to this union. Together they farmed in the Petersburg area and later southwest of Manchester.
Alice was a longtime member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar and Rosary Society. She enjoyed bowling and playing cards. Alice liked gardening, crocheting, quilting, and baking. She loved spending time with her friends and family.
Survivors include her three children, Larry (Diane) Bockenstedt of Earlville, Susan (Jerry) Nefzger of Delhi, and Ron (Shellie) Bockenstedt of Manchester; a son-in-law, Ron (Joan) Ronnebaum of Earlville; 20 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Eugene Helle of Manchester and James Helle of Colesburg; five sisters-in-law, Olga Helle of Dyersville, Ardelle Klosterman of Florida, Agnes Putz of Dyersville, Margaret Bockenstedt of Earlville, and Helen (Joe) Nurre of Manchester; and one brother-in-law, Calvin (Ivanelle) Bockenstedt of Luxemburg.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bud Bockenstedt on November 9, 2015; one daughter, Jeanna Ronnebaum in 1981; one brother, Marvin Helle; and her sister, Adella Bildstein.
