Bernard John Schlichte

Bernard John Schlichte, 86, of Edgewood, Iowa, passed away on Friday, April 22, 2016, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.  He was born on June 9, 1929,  in New Vienna, the son of John and Ann (Willenbring) Schlichte.    He was raised and educated in the area, attending country school near Dyersville and High School in Dyersville

On September 14, 1949, Bernard was united in marriage to Ardella Scherbring at SS. Peter & Paul Church in Petersburg.   Together they farmed east of Greeley and then moved to Edgewood after they retired from farming.

Bernard loved to play cards and enjoyed dancing.  He also called square dances.  He was a longtime member of St. Mark Catholic Church in Edgewood.  Bernard enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Left behind to cherish his memory include his wife of 66 years, Ardella Schlichte of Edgewood; a daughter, Elaine Hoefer of Manchester; five grandchildren, Jeff and Rhonda Hoefer, Jason and Lisa Hoefer, Kristi (Ian) Moeller, Lisa (Andy) Reth, and Matthew Schlichte;  11 great-grandchildren, Rachael, Jena, Jaron, McKenna, Ava, and Kota Hoefer, Keaton, Kinlee, and Kessa Moeller, and Lacy and Tracy Reth; one sister, Verna Klostermann of Dyersville; two sisters-in-law, Mildred Schlichte and Alma Willenborg, both of Dyersville; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Donald Schlichte, a grandson, Craig Schlichte; four brothers, Clarence, Joe, Alvin, and Elmer Schlichte; and one sister, Lorraine Pins.
