Dorothy Mae (Nodurft) HamlettNovember 30, 1931 ~ August 1, 2017 (age 85)
Dorothy Hamlett, 85, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, August 1, 2017, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home in Strawberry Point. She was born on November 30, 1931, near Strawberry Point, the daughter of Harold and Vera (Fousek) Nodurft. Dorothy was raised and educated in the Lamont area, graduating from Lamont High School in 1949.
On October 15, 1951, Dorothy was united in marriage to Marvin Hamlett at the Emanuel Lutheran Church in Strawberry Point. Five children were born to this union. Together they farmed the family dairy farm northeast of Strawberry Point.
Dorothy loved cooking and spending time with her family. She was known for her very large garden, canning and freezing most of the produce for her family, and sharing some of it with friends and neighbors. She and Marvin also enjoyed playing cards and listening to old country music and especially enjoyed the Plagman Barn annual chicken dinner and music.
Dorothy was a member of the Mission in Christ Lutheran Church, a neighborhood club called the East Country Club, and volunteered at EWALU.
Survivors include her five children, Janet (Danny) Bockenstedt, Jerry (Larita) Hamlett, all of Strawberry Point, Kent (Irene) Hamlett of Marion, Cindy (Jerae) Buechler of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, and David (Wendy) Hamlett of Des Moines; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Maxine Hansel of Strawberry Point, and one sister-in-law, JoAnn Miller of Manchester.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin Hamlett, who passed away on July 9, 2016; her parents; a sister-in-law, Norma Russell; and a brother-in-law, Everett Hansel.
