Elvin "Bud" Gienapp

Elvin “Bud” Gienapp, 94, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 28, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.  He was born on January 9, 1923, in Manchester, the son of William and Kathryn (Maurer) Gienapp. Bud was a 1940 graduate of Manchester High School.  After graduation he served honorably in the U.S. Army.

 

On April 21, 1946, Bud was united in marriage to Vera Taylor in Baltimore, Maryland.  Three children were born to this union.  Bud farmed until 1970.  He then was in the insurance business until his retirement.  Bud and Vera spent 20 winters in Florida.

 

Bud enjoyed fishing and started golfing at the age of 80.  He also liked playing cards and shuffleboard.  Bud was a longtime member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. 

 

Survivors include his wife of 71 years, Vera Gienapp of Manchester; his three children, Jim (Anne) Gienapp of Bonita Springs, Florida, Joyce (Steve) DeFrance of Mason City, and Rick (Barb) Gienapp of Iowa City; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

 

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Leslie W. Gienapp; and one sister, Kathryn Keck.

 

The family requests that memorials be directed to Our Savior Lutheran Church in Manchester or Hope Lodge in Iowa City.
