Joseph Leo Hoffmann

Joseph L. Hoffmann, 93, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester. He was born on April 25, 1923, at Manchester, the son of Leo and Dorothy (Burlage) Hoffmann.  Joe was raised and educated in the area.  He served honorably in the U.S. Air Force  from November,  1942 until December,  1945, serving in the Pacific Theatre in WWII.

Joe was united in marriage to Dorothy Hartman  on November 13, 1982, at First Lutheran Church in Manchester.  Over the years, Joe was a realtor and farm manager.  He was a longtime member of First Lutheran Church.  Joe enjoyed golfing, playing cards, gambling, dancing, and visiting with anyone.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Hoffmann of Manchester; five children, Sam (Mary Lou) Hoffmann of Durango, Colorado, Ann Hoffmann of Phoenix, Arizona,  Dr. Michael Hoffmann of Durango, Colorado, Jim (Nikki) Hoffmann of Durango, Colorado, and Mary (Hardy) Laskin of Phoenix, Arizona; three step-children, Judith (Frank) Wilkins of Cedar Rapids, Cheryl Voelker  and Richard (JoAnn) Hartman, all of Manchester; three grandchildren, Aiden Hoffmann, Hannah and Sara Laskin; twelve step-grandchildren; 32 step-great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Gib (Maureen) Hoffmann of Manchester, and Robert (Elaine) Hoffmann of Guttenberg.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents; and a sister, Louise Drees.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Good Neighbor Home or First Lutheran Church.
