Maxine Elaine Johnson, 81, of Strawberry Point, died Saturday, September 17, 2016, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. She was born July 30, 1935, in Stanley, Iowa, the daughter of Clarence and Lucilia (Lauver) Ohl. Maxine was raised and educated in the Strawberry Point area, and graduated from Strawberry Point High School.
After graduation Maxine moved to Cedar Rapids and worked at Collins Radio for a couple of years and then back to Strawberry Point to work at Jessens Grocery Store.
On January 4, 1975, Maxine was united in marriage to Henry Johnson and they combined their families of 11 children.
Maxine was a long time member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Ya Ya Sisters. She loved spending time with her family and enjoyed quilting and scrapbooking.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband, Henry Johnson of Strawberry Point; their 11 children, Ronnie Johnson of Atkins, Lois (Dave) Bockenstedt of Strawberry Point, Janaan (Steve) German of Lamont, Terry (Karol) Johnson of Manchester, Kathryn (Mark) Gerth of Indianapolis, Indiana, Allan (Jeannie) Johnson of Strawberry Point, Stephen (John Duran) Baker, of Tucson, Arizona, Karen (Gary Weyers) Hobert of Lime Springs, Duane Johnson of Strawberry Point, Kathy (Mitch) Rumple of Fargo, North Dakota, and Lori (Jerry Kessler) Pope of Garnavillo; 30 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; one brother, Ed (Barb) Ohl of Marion; and two sisters, Sharon (Dave) Streicher of Casa Grande, Arizona and Jean (Clarence) MacTaggart of Rochelle, Illinois.
Maxine was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Mary Landis; and a grandson, Alex Gerth.
