Nancy Lynne Cassel

August 4, 1965 ~ January 14, 2017 (age 51) 51 Years Old

Nancy Lynne Cassel, 51, of Delhi, passed away, following a short illness, on Saturday, January 14, 2017, surrounded by family and loved ones, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa.  She was born on August 4, 1965, in Manchester, the daughter of Allen and Sharon (Wade) Cassel.  She was baptized and confirmed in her faith in Christ at First Lutheran Church in Manchester. Nancy was raised on a farm south of Manchester, where she learned the value of hard work and acquired a love of the outdoors. She was a graduate of West Delaware High School, class of 1984, where she was active in choir, theater, and cheerleading.  She went on to earn her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Speech Pathology from the University of Northern Iowa.  Nancy had been a practicing speech pathologist in Eastern Iowa for many years.

Nancy enjoyed golf, boating on Lake Delhi, snowmobiling, going to the casino, and camping in Guttenberg with family and friends.  She was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Bears.  Nancy was a longtime RAGBRAI enthusiast, partaking in the annual pilgrimage across Iowa for 20+ years.

Nancy was active in the Delhi Lions Club, American Speech & Hearing Association, and the Hartwick Huskys Ski Club.  She was a lifelong member of First Lutheran Church in Manchester.

Nancy was a wonderful sister, sister-in-law, and aunt who loved her family very much.  She enjoyed spending time with her niece and nephews, and attending their sporting events and school activities.  She was devoted to her job as a speech therapist, and passionate about helping those with language disorders.  Her empathy, affection, generosity, and humor had a positive and strong influence on the lives of her patients, colleagues, family, and friends.

Nancy is survived by her sister, Sheila Cassel Tibbott, and her three children, Ian, Elias, and Eadie Shaye; her brother Mark (Amy) Cassel and their children, Lyle and Henry, all of Manchester; special friend, Dean Chapman of Manchester; aunts and uncles, Richard and Mary Lou Wade, Doug Wade, Marilyn and Gary Feldmann, all of Ryan, and Keith and Clista Wade of Highlands Ranch, Colorado; and six cousins, Jill, Cathy, Clint, Jeremy, Wade, and Joann.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, Allen and Sharon Cassel; her paternal grandparents, Lyle and Louise Cassel; maternal grandparents, Wilbur “Shorty” and Roberta Wade; and brother-in-law, Rick L. Tibbott.

In lieu of flowers, Nancy asked that memorials in her memory be made to the Hartwick Huskys Ski Team.
