Robert Louis "Bob" Preuss

Robert Louis “Bob” Preuss, 75, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, January 4, 2018, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood, Iowa.  Bob was born on April 8, 1942, on a farm north of Arlington, the son of Lloyd and Dorothy (Schroder) Preuss.  The family then moved to his present farm near Strawberry Point in 1946. 

Bob was confirmed at St. Sebald Lutheran Church in 1957.   He was a 1960 graduate of Strawberry Point High School and served in the National Guard from 1964 to 1970.  Bob was a true farmer his entire life.  He loved spending time on his farm with his dog, Tre Blue.  You could often find him in his shop working on his John Deere tractors.

Bob had a special relationship with his brother Russell.  They did everything together – hunted, fished, rode motorcycles, go-carts, and snowmobiles, and raced a car at Hawkeye Downs.  They had a lot of fun and got into a lot of trouble!  They had an old Model T car that a neighbor gave them.  The two brothers made a ramp and jumped it until the car was destroyed.  They just had great times together. 

Bob enjoyed driving his Mustang to all the family get-togethers as long as there wasn’t a drop of snow on the ground.  He was always willing to help all of us with whatever we needed or wanted.  He was grateful for all of the help he got from his neighbor, Dan Thole.

During the past month, Bob appreciated all of the support and attention he received from the staff at the Edgewood Convalescent Home.  He was also very thankful of the hospice gals, and St. Luke’s ICU staff.

Survivors include one sister-in-law, Leah Preuss of Edgewood; nieces and nephews, Dave (Tammy) Preuss and Kristy (Brandon) Mather all of Edgewood, and Karen (Chad) Kehrli of Manchester; great-nieces and great-nephews, Kely (Bruce) Hemann, Riley Preuss, Hope and Grady Mather all of Edgewood, Alex (Paige Licht), Emma, and Caleb Kehrli of Manchester, and Devon and Hanna Reese of Cedar Rapids; three great-great nieces, Lydia , Claire, and Eden Hemann of Edgewood; one uncle, Frank Thyer; and several cousins.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Russell Preuss; niece, Joan Preuss; a nephew, David Lynn Preuss in infancy; his maternal grandparents, Albert and Mayme Schroder; and his paternal grandparents, Louis and Edna Preuss.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Hospice of Comfort.
