Darl Milton Toms

Darl M. Toms, 86, of Manchester, Iowa, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2016, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. He was born on April 22, 1930, on the family farm near Delhi, the son of Jesse and Josephine (Smith) Toms.  Darl was raised and educated in the Delhi area.

On July 26, 1953, Darl was united in marriage to Linda Boll at the United Methodist Church in Manchester.  After their marriage, they began farming and Darl worked part-time as a carpenter.  He then became an auto mechanic, working for many years at Wallaces and Bob Stephen Motors. 

Darl was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed stock car races and playing cards.  Family was the most important thing to him.  Darl especially enjoyed his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Linda Toms of Manchester; one son, Kevin Toms of Marion; one daughter, Kris (Scott) Zebuhr of Manchester; four grandchildren, Kara Toms, Kory Toms, Jake Zebuhr, and Jared (fiancé, Amanda Matus) Zebuhr; four great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Milton Retz of Manchester.

Darl was preceded in death by his parents; his three siblings, Lila Jean (Doran) Petlon, Merlyn (Bethal) Toms, and Doris Retz; and his great-granddaughter, Abigail Toms.
